FRIENDS ONLY

december morning

Let's grease the wheels over tea,
let's discuss things in confidence,
let's be outspoken, let's be ridiculous,
let's solve the world's problems.

I am officially finished! All exams done and papers submitted.

I only got 86% on my psychology final, which is disappointing. Hopefully my final grade still rounds out to an A. Other than that, I am so glad to have a break!

"The mind must always be in the state of 'flowing,' for when it stops anywhere that means the flow is interrupted and it is this interruption that is injurious to the well-being of the mind. In the case of the swordsman, it means death. When the swordsman stands against his opponent, he is not to think of the opponent, nor of himself, nor of his enemy's sword movements. He just stands there with his sword which, forgetful of all technique, is ready only to follow the dictates of the subconscious. The man has effaced himself as the wielder of the sword. When he strikes, it is not the man but the sword in the hand of the man's subconscious that strikes."

I can not focus. I am supposed to be writing about William Gass but he is so dull and I am so distracted that it is just not happening.

"Therefore, Ananda, be a lamp unto yourself, be a refuge to yourself. Take yourself to no external refuge. Hold fast to the Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the Truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourself. And those, Ananda, who either now or after I am dead shall be a lamp unto themselves, who take themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, shall not look for refuge to anyone beside themselves, it is they who shall reach the highest goal."

"We are not born all at once, but by bits. The body first, and the spirit later; and the birth and growth of the spirit, in those who are attentive to their own inner life, are slow and exceedingly painful. Our mothers are racked with the pains of our physical birth; we ourselves suffer the longer pains of our spiritual growth." - Mary Antin

"Imagine that every person in the world is enlightened but you.
They are all your teachers helping you learn perfect patience, perfect wisdom, perfect compassion."
